Southern Cross Solo Camping

About

Hi, I’m Audrey, and I’m an older single woman who loves to go camping solo in Australia.

After injuring myself in a workplace accident in 2002 I suffered many years of chronic pain, challenged mental health and severe mobility restrictions. This also led to multiple chronic medical conditions. I had to make a choice, and it simply boiled down to this. Was I going to continue being a shut in, or start a life worth living. I chose the latter.

The recovery process was long and difficult, but I was determined to get back to a life worth living. Eventually, I was able to regain basic mobility.

I had been camping since I was a kid, and I’ve always enjoyed the challenge and freedom of being out in the wilderness by myself. I felt drawn to this life again with my regained freedoms started going solo camping. The feeling is exhilarating..

I’m particularly drawn to the high country of Victoria and New South Wales. There’s something about the rugged beauty of these mountains that really speaks to me. I love the feeling of being surrounded by towering peaks, lush forests, and sparkling lakes.

I usually camp with my SUV, which I’ve outfitted with an awning, and free standing tents and tarps. This gives me the flexibility to explore different areas and to stay in one place for as long as I want.

I’ve been camping all over Australia over the years, and I’ve had some amazing experiences. I’ve seen some of the most beautiful places in the country, and I’ve met some wonderful people along the way.

I started this website to share my love of solo camping with others who have fought their way back from injury, particularly women. I want to show you that it’s possible to enjoy the great outdoors on your own, even with physical restrictions!

I hope you’ll join me on my adventures!

If you’re thinking about trying solo camping in Australia, I encourage you to go for it! It’s an amazing experience that you’ll never forget.
